“Dad, were you really so tired of waiting for me that you took me to court? The unbelievable reply left his daughter totally stunned and speechless”

Youll never believe the story I heard about Emily. She lost her mum when she was just fourcan you imagine? It happened so suddenly; her mum was tragically hit by a neighbours car, and Emilys dad, bless him, wore himself out trying to look after her. His life was so tough that he grew old before his time, barely hanging on.

Though Emily was his world, she hardly ever visited him after she got married. She was caught up in her own life, and the most he got were occasional phone calls. Her husband really didnt like the idea of Emily spending money on an old man, as he put itawful, right? Emilys dad hoped shed help him out in his old age, but it never happened.

One day, their neighbour suggested he go to court for maintenance. Your daughter would never think badly of you, she said. So off he went, and when Emily saw him at the courthouse, she burst into tears.

Dad! Did you get so tired of waiting that you dragged me here? she cried.

He sighed, Emily, I havent had money for bread in two days. I was hoping youd keep your word. Maybe I raised you wrong

She replied, You knew I had a job, and my husband sent you food and money.

Her husband jumped inStop twisting things. I send you money every month; youre not meant to blow it on nonsense.

Emily just turned away and tears rolled down her cheeks. I have something important to tell you, her dad said gently.

Emily turned around, curious.

When your mum was still alive, I came home from the factory and found her in the kitchen, deep in thought. Next to her was a package. Inside was a tiny girl. Your mum found you in a box beside some delivery vans. We decided there and then to raise you as our own daughter. Emily, that was you. Ive treasured you ever since. Forgive me!

He dropped his claim in court after that, crying. Then the truth came outEmilys husband had never bothered visiting her dad. He had been frittering the money away on nights out, gambling, and other women. Emily was absolutely gutted; she realised shed wasted years standing by a man who wasnt worth a penny.

Now, Emily lives with her dad. Theyre both happier than theyve ever beenfinally a proper family again.
