After Giving Birth to My Daughter and Raising Her Alone, My Parents Initially Offered Amazing Support—But Their Recent Actions Are Absolutely Unbelievable

Ever since I was pregnant, I knew I would be raising my child alone. When the father found out, he pleaded with teary eyes for me to end the pregnancy, but I stood firm in my decision. Thankfully, my parents were incredibly supportive, encouraging me to go through with the birth and assuring me that they would take care of everything. And they really did. My boyfriend disappeared without a trace, but Mum and Dad were absolutely delighted to have a granddaughter. Dad earned a good salary and looked after the family finances without a hitch. Mum was wonderfully diligent in keeping the house spotless and cooking meals for all of us.

Every time I tried to add my own money to the family budget, Dad would hand it back straight away, saying, “Why are you putting your child’s money in here? It’s better spent on your daughter.” And whenever I tried to help Mum in the kitchen, she’d insist, “Don’t trouble yourself. Spend time with your daughter; I’ll handle the cooking.” When I eventually went back to work, I started buying household necessities, though my contributions felt almost symbolic. Mum took full responsibility for the housework and even for looking after my little one.

Everything seemed in order, but the moment any man appeared in our family, my parents worries ramped up. “Haven’t you learned anything from life? They’re all the same. He’ll leave you and you’ll be pregnant again!” The older my daughter got, the tighter their control became.

They treated me like a schoolgirl. Mum would ring me constantly, asking where I was, when Id return home, listening for background voices, wanting to know who Id spoken to and what I had eaten that day. After work, Dad always insisted on escorting me home. Eventually, a man came into my life. When Mum found out and learned I had a date, she acted as if her health had suddenly failed, begging me not to leave her side. It ruined my relationship. My partner cancelled our meet-up, then another, then a third. By the tenth cancellation, he simply called it all off. He found someone whose mother was healthier and far less overbearing.
