While Working Two Jobs, Kate Received No Support From Her Parents—Only Heightening Her Frustration; Realizing That Her Parents Had Always Focused Solely On Her Sister Deepened Her Pain Even Further

Emily simply couldnt bear how her parents treated her anymore. In the hazy half-light of her dream, she ended a phone call with her mother brusquely, her anger erupting as she hurled her mobile at the wall, shattering it into shimmering fragments that floated midair. She was aware this reaction was over the top, but a wild cocktail of emotions surged inside herfury, bitterness, and the quiet ache of helplessness swirling in her chest. Tears tumbled from her eyes in the midst of the soul-storm, a sense of gravity tugging her down.

While Emily worked two jobs that seemed to stretch and warp the days, she received no support at all from her parentsthis only served to stoke the fires of her frustration. As the realisation dawned that her parents gaze had always been fixed solely on her sister, her heart throbbed with grief. She knew she ought to be glad for her sister, but money was a looming cloud that shadowed every thought.

Her phone vibrated again and again, echoing like thunder in her kitchen. The first call was from her mother, asking if she might lend some pounds for the flat her sister was moving into. With her own wallet echoing emptily, Emily decided she had to say no. Next came a bright invitation to her sisters housewarming in Oxford, but Emily declined once more. Days slipped by like melting candles, until her motherstrangely tall and blurred in her dreamshowed up at her door, and Emily hoped perhaps her mum was there to apologise for asking her for money for her sisters flat, knowing full well the rocky ground she herself was treading.

Instead, the air sharpened. Her mother seemed to sense Emilys wound and began to probe her obsession with money. Emily tried to explainit wasnt just about pounds and pence. She revealed the difficulties with her own mortgage, troubles her parents knew well but somehow always chose to overlook. Her mother sidestepped, ignoring Emilys words, and accused her of caring only about currency.

Stung deeply, Emily clashed with her mum, voicing a desperate desire for acknowledgment and affection. She wondered aloud if she had done something wrong to deserve being treated so differently from her sister. Afterwards, Emily felt washed through, drained but still floating, pondering how she might press forward, seeking the elusive peace and love that seemed to drift just outside her grasp in the surreal English landscape of her family ties.
