My husband’s brother discovered our plan to sell the university dorm rooms and thought he could take advantage of us, but he had no idea we were far smarter than he expected.
So, my husband and I met totally by chanceas fellow flatmates in our university halls. At first, it was simply friendship, but over time, something special grew between us, and eventually we became a couple. Those days living in student accommodation were great fun, but we knew when we finished studying it was time to move on and start our own little family.
As our incomes got better, we decided to invest in a proper flat. That meant selling the two university rooms we still owned, which was a bit of a project for us. We kept our plans hush-hush; we wanted to do up the new place and surprise our families with a cheerful housewarming party.
But, my husbands brother somehow caught wind of us selling the rooms and came to us with an idea. He said, Why dont you sell the rooms to me for a bit less? Were family, after all. He tried tugging at the heartstrings, saying he could pay in instalments because he had two kids to look after. He even claimed the rooms werent worth much, so it didnt make sense to pay full whack for them. He had no clue wed sold the rooms ages ago and had already bought ourselves the apartment with the money.
The bloke ended up spilling the beans about our new flat to everyone. But instead of being happy for us, my own brother was clearly annoyed and left without saying a word. Turns out, he was hoping to take advantage of the situation, but our cunning outsmarted his little scheme. Honestly, it was a bit awkward, but also pretty satisfying in the end!
