I Met My Husband at His Own Wedding
So, not long after I started at this publishing companymaybe four months ina colleague of mine invited me along to her wedding. Honestly, wed hit it off right away; you know how sometimes you just click with someone at work? That was us. I hadnt met her other half before, but I was eager to give my new dress an outing, so I accepted without a second thought.
A few of us from the office were invited, so we travelled together. We ended up running late (classic us), and by the time we arrived, everyone was already seated at their tables. We sneaked into the reception as quietly as possible, trying not to cause a scene.
There mustve been more than a hundred guests in this grand hall, beautifully decorated, and honestly, the spread was absolutely cracking. Still, thats not what caught my attention that night. When I first laid eyes on my friends fiancé, I was completely bowled over. Honestly, it was like something out of a filmproper head over heels at first glance, and to top it off, he clearly felt the same. My cheeks were glowing all evening, and my heart was pounding so much I thought someone might hear it. I couldn’t eat a bite, nor touch my wine.
It was all too much, and I decided the easiest way to cope was just to slip away early. My mind was racing and I figured being at home, away from everyone, was the only way Id be able to calm down. The next day, I left the office in the early evening, and there he was, waiting for me by the main entrance. His new wife was away on annual leave, so she wasnt around at work.
He didnt say anythingsimply walked over, took my hand, and led me to his car. Before I knew it, he was kissing me, and I couldnt pull away even if I wanted to. We must have spent hours just talking and kissing in his car, neither of us able to tear ourselves away. In the end, we went back to mine, and, well, that was that. He promised me hed leave his wife and that he wanted to marry me instead. Thats exactly what happenedhe went home, spoke to his wife, collected his things, and came back to mine. Ive no idea what was said between them; I never asked.
We didnt hang about. We got married fairly quickly and were able to buy our own place together. Weve now been married for over three years. I handed in my notice at work pretty much straight awaywhich, as you can imagine, went down like a lead balloon. His ex-wife had been working there for years; meanwhile, I was the new girl, and most people felt terribly sorry for her. Goodness knows what was said about me behind closed doors.
As for my husband and me, we agreed on a fresh start, leaving the past behind us. I honestly feel truly happy now. Loads of people said our marriage wouldnt last two minutes, but here we arestill together, still happy. After everything thats happened, I absolutely know now that sometimes you really do have to fight for your own happiness.
