My Sister Betrayed and Disappointed Me, but My Mother Just Bowed Her Head and Said It Was for the Best

I never imagined my own family would betray me like thistaking advantage of my trust and leaving me penniless. In our modest two-bedroom flat in Manchester, ownership was split evenly between my mother, my sister, and me. Our grandmother, who also owned a two-bedroom property, had always promised to write a will, dividing it equally between her two granddaughters. The idea was simple: my sister and I would choose who lived there, or else sell it and split the proceeds.

At the time, my sister had moved back in with Mum after an unexpected pregnancy, while I was away in London for university. Eventually, my sister and her growing family took over the larger bedroom, pushing Mum into the smaller one. During my occasional visits, Mum and I would share a cramped spacebut I knew, deep down, that after graduating, there would be no place for me there, not with my brother-in-law around. Mum, anxious not to upset my sisters husband, pulled me aside and begged me not to stir up trouble.

I confided my worries to my grandmother, who offered a solution: give up my portion of the Manchester flat to my sister, and in return, shed change her will, leaving me the one-bedroom flat. I floated this idea past Mum and my sister, but my sister simply smileda cold, triumphant smileand said, You might as well just take me to court. You wont win, anyway.

In the end, I signed away my share, trusting the arrangement, but fate spat in my face: my grandmothers health deteriorated quickly, and she died before she could amend her will. Just like that, my sister inherited the whole two-bedroom propertyalong with half of the one-bedroom flat, which she was already living in. I pleaded with Mum for support, for fairness, but she sided with my sister, despite what wed agreed in black and white. She couldnt even meet my eyes when she told me, We all live under the same roof. There doesnt have to be any fighting.

Now, in my sisters house, Mum works as a cleaner and nanny. As long as shes usefulliving off her pension to support themshes allowed to stay. I cant bear to think what will happen when shes no longer of service. With no other close family to turn to, theres nothing left for me in Manchester. My mother and sister are an unbreakable alliance now, but Ive made my decision. I refuse to keep pretending, to keep hurting myself. Whatever family I hadwhatever trust remainedthey have shattered it beyond repair.
