His Son Called to Say His Wife Had Left Him Home Sick and Gone Out to a Club with Her Friends

How many times have I told him not to marry her? Honestly, right before the wedding, I practically begged him not to go through with it. But did he listen? Of course notmadly in love, the poor fool. And now, well, hes reaping what hes sown.

Just a few days ago, my son rang me up. I could hear it in his voicehe was poorly. You cant fool a mother, can you? He asked me to come round. Apparently, his darling wife, upon discovering he was ill, packed her bag and dashed off to her friends. Not a soul left to make him a cup of tea or whip up a bit of chicken soup.

To make matters worse, she wasnt even answering his calls! It was getting late, but I hurried over as fast as I could. Popped into Boots on the way and grabbed some medicine. And all the while I was thinking of her. Leaving her poorly husband all alone while shes off having a jolly with the girls. My son was really in a state. When I saw him, I very nearly called an ambulance, but he begged me to wait.

He was burning up with fever. And there was absolutely nothing in their flat. Thank heavens Id thought to bring medicine and some grub. I had to bite my tongue to keep from giving her a proper telling off. What sort of woman leaves her husband sick, with nothing but her slimming tablets in the medicine cabinet and a fridge so empty it echoes? I brewed him a cup of tea and dashed back out to Tesco for a bit of chicken broth.

Only after hed rested and eaten did he start to perk up. His fever finally broke. And his lovely wife strolled in at three oclock in the morning, absolutely reeking of gin. Clearly had herself a grand old time. She didnt so much as listen to a word I said about the medicine. If it werent for the state my son was in, Id have given her a piece of my mind right there and then. Although, truth be told, it looked like he was rather close to kicking up a fuss himself.

Claire was frying meatballs when her husband walked into the kitchen. – “Claire, we need to talk,” Mark declared firmly. – “Talk,” the woman snapped. – “Maybe sit down and listen properly?” Mark’s voice sounded impatient. – “I never… I have to keep an eye on the meatballs,” the wife replied. – “What did you want to tell me?” – “I…” Mark stammered, barely finding words. – “I’ve met another woman… I’m leaving you!” – “Congratulations.
