A man collapsed in the middle of the street, and I was the only one who stepped in to help.

As I boarded the bus heading to school this morning, I noticed a man around fifty struggling to keep hold of the rail. Initially, I assumed he might be drunk, but after watching more closely, I realised something was wrong. Coincidentally, we both got off at the same bus stop, which piqued my curiosity and tempted me to follow him. I saw that his steps were uncertain and shaky, and concern led me to approach him.

Excuse me, sir, are you feeling alright? I asked. He lifted his gaze and met mine, a look of confusion and discomfort clear in his eyes. I was at a loss for what to do, but suddenly, he collapsed right beside me, unresponsive to my attempts to help. The people passing nearby continued walking, barely sparing us a glance.

Quickly, I dialled 999, and an ambulance arrived within minutes. The paramedics thanked me for my swift call, emphasising that my intervention might have been crucial in saving his life. After fulfilling my responsibility, I carried on to my lectures at university.

I lived with my mother in Manchester, as I never knew my father. My mother was a cleaner, and together we cleared snow from paths during the winter to make extra money. One day, while shovelling outside, a fancy foreign car pulled up in front of us. An attractive woman stepped out, approaching us with purpose. The doctor gave me your number. You saved my father’s life. He told me that if you hadnt acted quickly and called for an ambulance, my dad might not have survived, she said, handing me an envelope filled with pounds before leaving. This unexpected gesture eased some of the financial strain on my mother.

That memory stayed with me vividly. After finishing secondary school, I enlisted in the military. My mum often told me, You are the greatest joy in my life. Youve become a true gentleman, smiling proudly. Around this time, I met Charlotte, a woman I felt ready to spend my life with. Before anything else, I introduced her to my mother. Mum immediately took a liking to Charlotte, who combined beauty, intelligence, and a wonderful character thanks to her loving parents.

Eventually, the moment came to meet Charlottes parents. Her mother was initially speechless upon seeing me, but then she smiled warmly and hugged me. Charlotte, do you remember the story I told you about the young man who saved your grandfathers life? That fateful day, he was rushing to work, and his car broke down. He opted for public transport and began to experience severe chest pain on the bus. He collapsed, but this remarkable man came to his aid, called an ambulance straight away, and stayed beside him the whole ordeal, Charlottes mother recalled, beaming brightly.

The reunion brought immense happiness to everyone, as our paths had crossed once more after so many years.
