He Walked Out When She Was Nine Months Pregnant—Now, Three Years Later, He Wants to Come Back

Its often said that the longer couples date before marriage, the rockier their marriages become

There was a couple whod been together for seven years before finally deciding to tie the knot. During all that time, theyd never lived together a single full daythey cherished their space and freedom. But an unexpected pregnancy nudged them towards marriage.

At first, sharing a home was a novel and exciting experience for them both. They redecorated their small flat, especially after the girls grandmother moved in with her own parents, leaving the young couple with room to themselves. They delighted in shopping together for furniture and other household odds and ends. However, once everything was sorted, something shifted; they both started to feel a strange restlessness being cooped up together.

Her husband soon started asking if he might go for a pint with his mates now and again, and she was grateful the evenings would be hers to spend in peace. It became their routineboth happy in their own company and meeting at home only late at night, just as theyd been doing for those previous seven years.

As the babys arrival drew closer, her husband grew noticeably glummer each day. She barely noticed until, one afternoon, a stranger rang her upa flustered woman saying her husband was moving in with her! Sure enough, while the young woman had been at her midwifes appointment, her husband had packed his things and left without a word.

What stung most was that he didnt even bother offering an explanation to his expectant wifehe just vanished, too cowardly even to show his face at the divorce hearing. She made sure, with her familys help and a few discreet phone calls, that when her child was born, no father was listed on the birth certificate.

She gave birth to a healthy baby boya lovely big lad with charming dimples. The sight of her son soothed something deep within her; all the heartbreak and betrayal from her once dear partner faded away. Her parents stepped in lovingly to help raise the child, and she swore off new relationshipsher wounded heart took a long time to mend.

When her son turned three, there was a ring at the doorbell. Expecting her mum to be visiting to help with her grandson, she opened the door without looking. On her front step stood her ex-husband, holding a huge bunch of red rosesher longstanding favouriteand a large racing car toy, the first ever gift hed brought his son in three years.

She stared at him in silence until he said softly, Im so sorry Ill do anything you ask

She replied, You really think you can just show up and Ill forgive you now? After all these years?

Their little boy came running into the hallway.

No. And dont come back. For years, we havent needed youweve grown used to being just the two of us.

She didnt feel hurt anymore. Over the years, the pain had faded away, leaving only pity for the man whod lost his chance at being a father. Sometimes, the wounds others deal us heal not with time, but with the love we build for ourselves and our families. And in the end, what matters most isnt who stays or goes, but who we choose to become when left standing on our own.
