My Friends Are Buying Apartments and Spending Money on Renovations, While My Girlfriend Has Spent All Her Savings Trying to Boost Our Finances

Everyone else seems to have a lovely wife, but I ended up with a foolish one.

She boasted to everyone, proudly declaring that wed be able to buy a flat with ease after the wedding, since the guests would surely give us money and her family would help as well. However, the truth was quite different. Her parents bluntly told her that, since it was her bright idea to marry a hopeless estate agent at the age of twenty, without a proper education, wed have to sort the flat ourselves. They actually laughed at our struggles, and I had no choice but to bring my wife to live with my own parents.

My brother already lives there with his pregnant girlfriend, so the house is unbelievably cramped. My parents hinted, not so subtly, that it would be best if we found our own place, even if we just rented a small flat. Still, I decided we should save up for a deposit so one day we could get a mortgage and buy a home. My wife knew my plan and always said she longed for us to move out. So what did she do? She spent our savings on shares.

Why? To grow our savings.

My mother nearly fainted when I shared the news. My heart just sank because the value of those shares keeps dropping and it will take ages to sell them. So now, we either cut our losses and accept a hit, or we just have to wait, hoping things turn around someday. Thats how it iseveryone we know has families and their own places, but all we have is a handful of shares!

My wife cries all the time, regretting that she was taken in. She even paid those so-called experts to teach her where and how to invest. And I cant help but think about divorce. Its hard to feel strong love when all I can think about is the money I earned and saved over the years, which now just seems to be slipping through my fingers.

Looking back, maybe our marriage was on rocky ground right from the start, and this is just another reminder that things havent been going my way since I married a girl who wasnt quite as wise as I hoped. Yet if theres a lesson here, its this: Life doesnt always go to plan, and sometimes the people we love make mistakes. But if you only focus on whats lost, youll miss what truly matterslearning, growing, and forgiving, even in the toughest times.
