A Kind-Hearted Grandmother Tried to Support Her Troubled Grandson, Only to Find Herself in a Difficult Situation in Her Own Home
So, Ive got to tell you about Mary, a retired lady living out in the English countryside, surrounded by rolling fields and her lovely little garden. She took great pride in her home and enjoyed the peace and quiet, pottering around outside. But her tranquil life got turned upside down because her son’s family, who were based in London, were having all sorts of trouble.
Her grandson, Thomas, was a polite and gentle soul whod always been good at school. Instead of going off to university, though, he opted for a job at a local factory. Things seemed finehe got married, had a son, and it all looked pretty straightforward. But Thomas started having a tough time and slipped into drinking. The fun-loving lad got mixed up with the wrong crowd, his behaviour spiralled, and the family was locked in endless arguments. His marriage was hanging by a thread.
Wanting to help and keep the family together, Mary invited Thomas to come and live with her in the village. She figured a change in scenery and her company might do him some goodand besides, she wouldnt mind the help or the company herself.
For a while, things genuinely picked up. Thomas seemed to be improving, his wife breathed a sigh of relief, and they all mucked in together, lending a hand in Marys garden. But after about a month, Thomas slipped right back into his old ways. Not long after, his wife packed up, took their son, and left. Thomas, however, didnt seem bothered. Instead, he brought another partnersomeone who shared his newfound lifestyleinto Marys house. They both just moved in, carrying on as if nothing mattered but themselves, never taking Marys feelings into account.
Soon, money troubles started piling up. Creditors came knocking, chasing up old debts. Shockingly, Thomas even borrowed money from Marys friends, leaving her feeling both embarrassed and heartbroken. Despite everything, Thomas managed to persuade Mary to sign over the house to him, which left her feeling exposed and uneasy, scared she might even be chucked out of her own home. Thomas and his new partner, meanwhile, took full advantage, happily living under her roof without lifting a finger to help.
One day, at her wits end, Mary said, Honestly, if theres such a thing as hell after all this, it cant be half as bad as what Ive been through already. Then, Thomas and his partner cooked up a plan to start their own business and took out a bank loan in pounds. But if it all goes wrong, theyre all at risk of losing the roof over their headsstaring down the consequences of their choices together.
