My Husband Was Unhappy With My Curves and Left Me for a Slim Woman — Five Years Later, We Crossed Paths Again

Published

So, after I had my baby, I put on a bit of weight. Not loads, mind you, but enough to notice a differencemy figure wasnt quite the same. Instead of telling me, Dont worry, love, youre just as wonderful as ever, and waiting it out while I found my feet again, my husband basically legged it. He left so abruptly that one day he just didnt come home. I was suddenly standing there, a baby in my arms, and Im sure you can imagine how that feltno need to spell it out.

Eventually, I grew tired of sitting around feeling sorry for myself and found the strength to try to live again. I got myself a dogan adorable spaniel named Barneyand started going out for jogs with him in the morning. Then, I pushed myself to start doing ab workoutsnot easy mentally, but it kept my mind off all the gloom. Soon enough, working out became my routine. Once I managed to find a job, I even signed up at the local fitness club.

Now, unlike the grumpy trainer at the community centre, my fitness club coach was the most patient, thoughtful person. After a couple of years of religiously showing up at the gym, I hadn’t just got my figure backI actually improved it here and there. Swear, I looked better than even before! I started loving myself again and appreciating my body.

One day, as I was heading homegym bag slung over my shoulder and still in my workout gearI spotted my ex-husband standing right outside my building. Roses in hand, box of chocolates, the whole works. Looks like hed been ringing the bell, but my son hadnt let him in. It hit methis was my big moment. I could finally do what every heartbroken person dreams of

Make him squirm with regret.

So, I chucked my hands behind my neck, did a quick set of five squats right there, sorted my top, and strode up to him.

And want to know the punchline? He looks at me and says, Excuse me, miss, do you live here? Could you let me in?

I just burst out laughinghad to cover my face because it was equal parts hilarious and sad. Felt this weird triumphant rush. I stepped aside, and he got all annoyed: Did I say something funny? Whats so amusing?

I looked him straight in the eye and said, Remember at the registry office, when we promised to care for and love each other? I can laugh about it now, finally!

He eyed me up, a bit lost. I told him flat out, Youve got ten seconds to leave this courtyard. He asked, desperate now, Cant I at least see my son? But I just shooed him off. Watched him walk away, glancing back a few times but honestly, it made no difference. Life gives you what youre brave enough to wish for, doesnt it?
