When My Parents Were Due to Arrive, I Started Tidying Up the House

Published

on

Ive been in a relationship with my boyfriend for two years now. He recently proposed, and naturally, I said yes. Still, I couldnt help but notice he wasnt in any rush for us to start living together.

He currently stays in a three-bedroom flat that belongs to his parents, while I reside in student accommodation. Personally, I believe its important to live together before tying the knotto get used to one another and see how we manage day-to-day life. I shared this with my boyfriend, but he acted as though he didnt quite grasp what I meant. Then, luck seemed to be on our sidehis parents had to leave for two weeks, giving us a chance to live together for a short while.

I tried my best to be the perfect housemate. I cooked, cleaned, and kept everything neat. Every day, I treated my fiancé to tasty homemade dishes, hoping hed feel comfortable and happy.

Everything would have gone smoothly had it not been for one hitch. I asked him to hoover the flat, but he flatly refused, claiming it was a womans job. According to his family, a mans duty is to provide financially, not help around the house. I kept quiet, thinking things might change once we settled in together properly.

Before his parents returned, I scrubbed the flat until it sparkled. I wanted to make a great impression. I baked a cake, made a nice dinner, and then headed back to my place.

The following day, Sebastian told me his mum was unhappy with me. Apparently, I hadnt been a very good hostess. I was honestly shocked. When I first visited, their flat hadnt been nearly as tidy. Why was she criticising me? She didnt even appreciate my bakingshe thought it tasted strange. I felt utterly insulted!

I suspect she simply doesnt want her son to leave home, so shes finding fault with me. Perhaps shes hoping for a different match for Sebastian. Why do I think that? Well, since his parents returned, Sebastian has been distant, barely sees me, and hardly messages anymore. I truly dont think a wedding will happen.

Whats your opinion?
