I Have to Live Like This Because of My Wife.

Published

on

I recently met a girl who was, at first glance, simply beautiful. We would often go for walks together, take drives out of town, and spend time at local coffee shops and cinemas. But for me, that didnt feel like enough. I wanted to see my girlfriend all the time, not just when we went out. So, without lingering, I asked her to marry me. Why put it off? We loved each other, enjoyed our time together, and living together would only bring us closer. So, we got married.

However, my mother took an instant dislike to Emily. She even told Emily straight to her face. Emily refused to live with my mum, although Id hoped we could all share a home. We had a two-bedroom flat: one room for us, and one for my mum. But Emily wouldnt even consider it. She insisted that we live together in her student halls. After the wedding, we moved into her accommodation, just as she wanted.

Honestly, Id never imagined myself living in student halls or in such conditions. To begin with, I really didnt like sharing the bathrooms and toilets. At first, I was embarrassed by everything and couldnt even bring myself to wash there. And the cockroaches! They crawled everywhere. How does anyone live like this? Emily didnt seem bothered at all. She said they hadnt eaten anyone yet and wouldnt harm me, and that I was making a mountain out of a molehill. Theres no way to get rid of themits filthy. Next door, theres a couple who argue loudly all the time.

On the other side, theres a family with a little girl who cries and screams constantly, keeping not only her parents awake but the rest of us too. And just recently, I had a run-in with another neighbour. Hed been drinking too heavily at night and started a fight, so I tried to calm him down. Ever since, hes been trying to get back at me and drag me into more trouble. I dont want to be there at all. Ive already suggested to Emily that we rent a flat together.

But she wont hear of it. She says shes used to living there and shes happy. We could live in our own place, but the rent is so expensiveId have to give up my entire paycheck to cover it. Mum suggested we move in with her again, promising not to interfere in our relationship. But Emily refuses to listen to any talk of moving.

Lately, shes started talking about having children. Shes convinced it would strengthen our family. Of course, Id love to be a father, but whenever I think of the conditions a child would have to grow up in, my enthusiasm fades away. The constant quarrels between neighbours, the shouting… Sometimes I consider divorcenot because I dont love my wife, but because these living conditions dont seem right for building a life.

I want my future child to grow up in a good environment. I dont know how much longer I can put up with it; my nerves are frayed. Emily wont compromise.

In life, Ive learned that love can sometimes mean making tough choices, and happiness isnt only about being togetherits also about working towards a future where both partners feel safe and content. If we want the best for those we love, sometimes we must be willing to make sacrifices and find a middle ground.
