Husband Tried to Forbid His Wife from Having a Baby

Published

Ten years of marriageis it much, or is it little? Such was the length of time Sarah spent with Adam. Once, they were considered the picture of a perfect English family, and then the day came when Sarah discovered she was expecting a child.

They crossed paths just after universityquickly drawn to each other, their courtship was short, and before long, they moved into a cozy flat in Bath and married amid old friends and family. Adam made it clear, more than once, that he never wanted children. For years, Sarah took every precaution, yet one morning, fate intervened. She stared at her trembling hands, the pregnancy test showing two distinct lines.

Sarah agonised over how to break the news to her husband. Quietly, she visited a private clinic in Bristol, underwent every test, each scan, ensuring the tiny life within was healthy. Only then did she summon the courage to tell Adam. His reaction was immediatehe flew into a rage, angrier than Sarah had ever seen him. He demanded she terminate the pregnancy on the spot. If she refused, he warned her coldly, he would file for divorce.

She chose, rightly, to keep the baby. The very next day, Adam packed his suitcase and vanished from their townhouse. Sarah thought he had gone abroad on business, though in truth, he watched her from a distance, keeping up with her appointments and movements. On the very day of her ultrasound, he stood outside the walls of the hospital and overheard a conversation revealing she was carrying twins. After their birth at St Marys Maternity in London, he arranged to meet with the doctors and at last laid eyes on his children. But, he admitted, he hadnt the courage to face Sarah herself.

One afternoon, a kindly nurse confided in Sarah that her husband had been visiting the twins. The knowledge brought her quiet comfort, though she kept her composure.

Then, in the dusky light of a rainy evening, Adam appeared before his wife at home.

Sarah, Im sorry, he said softly. Let me try to explain. I was only three when I lived alone with my mother. She was expecting at the time, but my fathers departure did nothing to help. The birth came early. It was tragic. My mother died, and my twin brothers passed away the very next day. I swore then I would not be a father if it meant risking that loss.

Sarahs tears flowed freely as she gathered Adam in her arms. Her heart ached for him, for the burdens hed carried so long in silence. They reconciled, picking up the forgotten threads of daily life and weaving together a new beginning. Only now there were four where once there had been two.

Years slipped gently by, and Adam and Sarah remained just as deeply devoted as the day they met. In the end, all their happiness required to be complete was the laughter of their two beloved children.
