At the End of My Maternity Leave, Will I Be Required to Repay Child Support Payments to My Husband?

Published

on

Recently, I happened to stumble upon my husbands notebook, and in it were all the expenses he had recorded for my seven-year-old son. At the moment, my son is in Year One at school. His father and I divorced quite some time ago. When my son was four, I met another man. He told me he loved me, and he promised to love my son as his own. For me, that was everything I needed to hear.

In reality, though, my husband never truly wanted to be a genuine father to my son. Back then, his attention and respect towards my boy felt sufficient. A year after our wedding, our daughter was born. My husband soon began to shower her with affection; after all, she was his own child.

Im currently on maternity leave, which means my husband is the sole provider for our family. Every time we visit the playground or stroll through the park, he continues to buy my son different toys or an ice cream.

But just recently, I discovered the notebook and Im still in shock. When I opened it, there was a table split into three sections. Every column was clearly labelled: date, name, amount. Toys £40, Ice cream £40, Swings £30.

I asked my husband how he could keep track of all this. He didnt even flinch when I showed him the notebook. In his world, it was completely normal. He calmly explained that, yes, when my maternity leave ends, Ill need to repay all of these expenses for my son. Whats more, he suggested I stop hesitating and go to the courts for child support from my ex-husband, so it would be easier for me to repay this debt. My husband added that right now, his only concern is supporting his own child.

I burst into tears. I cant bring myself to leave him; we have a daughter together and I still love him deeply. But I cant forgive this pettiness. Who knows what will happen next!
