How My Husband Secretly Supported His Mother While I Struggled to Clothe Our Child—A Story of Scraping By, Hidden Jobs, and Boutique Shopping for His Mum

So, listenmy husband and I arent exactly rolling in it. We both work, but were not bringing home big money. Id even say we manage on a shoestring. And you know, weve got our four-year-old daughter to look after, and these days raising a little one just costs an arm and a leg. Its not easy making ends meet.

On top of that, my husband starts giving money to his mum for her rent. I mean, we can barely keep the heating on in our own flat, and yet were forking out for my mother-in-law. The thing is, shes perfectly healthyshe could easily pick up a part-time job if she wanted to. Id do it myself but after picking up our daughter from nursery, Ive got no one to mind her. Every time I asked my mother-in-law to help watch her granddaughter, shed turn me down, always saying shes too tired or her backs playing up.

Then I find out shes just gone on a posh holiday, not some budget thing, either. My husband only tells me when he needs a favourhe wants me to trek clear across London to water her plants while she’s off enjoying herself. Honestly, I was just stunned. I could have used that time to pick up extra shifts or do a bit of freelancing, rather than fussing over someone elses houseplants.

But you know what really knocks me sideways? Suddenly my mother-in-laws living the high lifedesigner handbags, smart dresses straight from the boutiques, the works. I kept thinking, wheres she getting this kind of cash? My husband always said his poor old mum couldnt manage the rent, and now look at her. Is there some rich uncle footing the bill or what?

Then the other day, I noticed my husband lugging around the same big, heavy bag all the time. When he nipped to the loo, I had a peek inside. Turns out, its full of gadgetslaptops, tablets. And one of the laptops I recognised straight off from my friend at work. Next day I bump into her and she laughs, telling me my husbands got a side hustle repairing electronics.

So thats where the moneys coming from! When I asked him directly if hes spending it all on his mum, he just admitted it without blinking.

So, whatyoure sending your mother to luxury spa resorts and buying her boutique clothes, while our daughter and I are sewing holes in our socks and making do with hand-me-downs?

Theyre my earnings. Ill spend them how I like, he says.

Well, Ill tell you whatI packed him off right back to his mums with his own suitcase. If he loves her company that much, they can live together. Seems only fair, dont you think?
