I Must Share My Food Equally with My Husband – If I Don’t, I’ll Be Left Hungry

Published

on

Im not sure if anyone else has this issue, but lately Ive started to split food evenly with my husband. Honestly, I just cant see any other solution. If I dont divide things right away, my husband ends up eating my share as well. It leaves me with nothingbasically hungry.

Let me explain. My husband and I have been married for three years. Were not planning on having children just yet; theres plenty of time for that. We both work and earn about the same. When we first got married, I didnt think much about his unusual habit. Well, he is a man who enjoys his food, so I thought, let him be!

But after a while, I began to notice that the groceries we bought together, or the meals I cooked, would mostly get eaten by him. Id only ever get a small portion of whatever was cooked or bought from the shop. This went on for about a year.

For example, if I roasted a chicken, Id be left with just the tiniest bit. Yet I love chicken thighs and crispy schnitzels too. Having nothing but dry chicken breast or some wings isnt much of a treat. The same thing would happen with chocolates and biscuits. If I managed to have one or two, that was luckyfor both of us, in theory. Hed already polished off all the good bits.

At first, Id give my husband a gentle hint: You know, I like the chocolates and chicken as well. He would always laugh about it and say, You cook so well that I dont even notice how Ive eaten it all. Dont be upset, love. I didnt realise you wanted some too. Next time just tell me.

Of course, I wasnt exactly offended, but it wasnt particularly nice. The last straw came on my birthday. I made a few salads the night before and roasted our favourite chicken, so I wouldnt have to spend the next evening stuck at the cooker. That way, we could simply warm things up and enjoy a meal together for my special day.

My husband always comes home from work before I do. It never crossed my mind that hed eat absolutely everything. Hed cleaned out the saladsall except for a single spoonful of eachand I was left with just one chicken leg.

I was so hungry, I just couldnt wait, he said.

Even the birthday cake, I had to divide in halfone piece for me, one for him. That was the moment I just couldnt take it anymore. The cheerful mood Id had on my way home evaporated.

Thats it, darling. Im fed up. Ive put up with this for ages, and I wont anymore. From now on, we split everything down the middle. When we go shopping, well divide each thing in half. Chickenhalf and half. Chocolates and biscuits? Well count them out and bag up the shares. Fruits and everything else, the same. You can eat your share all at once or make it last over days, as you wish. Im tired of being hungry and only eating leftovers. You dont even ask if Id like any saved for me. So, either you agree to split everything fairly, or Ill buy my own food and you can buy yours.

My husband didnt argue; he agreed straightaway. Now, I divide every shop equally between us. Me and my husband. That way, no one has to go without.

In the end, its all about respectmaking sure both peoples needs and wishes are considered in little, everyday things. Fairness in small matters truly makes a marriage stronger.
