My Parents Never Could Have Imagined That My Brother’s Relationship with Rebecca Would Cause Such a Disaster in Our Family!

When my brother turned 18 last month, he caught us all off guard with a surprising announcementhe wanted to marry his girlfriend, Emily. However, our parents were far from delighted by this turn of events. They had never approved of Emily, largely because of her poor manners and lack of focus on her studies. She was enrolled at college, but she hardly ever bothered to attend classes, something that really irritated my parents. They were convinced she was a bad influence on my brother, constantly distracting him from his own education.

Emilys impolite behaviour and her habit of dressing scruffily and inappropriately only reinforced our parents’ disapproval. Even her own family disapproved of the relationship and didn’t want her anywhere near their home. Although she and my brother had been together for two years, Emily hadn’t yet shown any redeeming qualities that might make my parents reconsider.

Frustrated by our parents objections, my brother stood his ground, insisting that he would not give up his love for anyone. Personally, I felt indifferent towards Emily, but I worried that having her around would stir up strife within our family. My brother still lived with us, while Emily stayed with her mother, stepfather, and younger sister. Since they couldnt afford a place of their own, my brother suggested that Emily move in with us, sharing his room.

Things took a turn for the worse when our dad made some cutting remarks, questioning how they could live in an empty room without proper furniture, and insisting my brother should cover all the expenses himself. In response, my brother demanded his share of the house and stormed out with just a small backpack, leaving suddenly. For several weeks, he and Emily bounced between friends places until finally they both returned, adamant that theyd stick together whatever happened.

The real shock came when my brother informed our parents that hed decided to sell his share of the flat, making it clear he was willing to walk away from everything if they refused to accept his choice. This led to a heated argument, and once again he left. It seemed Emilys mother, who has some connections to the legal world, might have encouraged this drastic move by giving them advice. I tried to step in and bring some peace back to the family, but both my parents and brother dismissed my efforts and told me to mind my own business.

Its a difficult and painful situation, and I just hope that with time, understanding, and open communication, we can find a way to restore harmony to our family.
