My mates are all buying flats and splashing out on renovations, while my girlfriend managed to blow through all our savings trying to increase our capital.
Everyone else has a lovely wife, and somehow I’ve wound up with an absolute fool.
Shed go around bragging to everyone, insisting that after the wedding wed have no trouble buying a flat, since the guests were bound to give us generous gifts and our families would lend a hand. In reality, her parents made it quite clear that since she fancied the idea of marrying a hopeless estate agent at twenty with no proper education, wed have to sort the housing situation ourselves. They actually laughed at us, leaving me no choice but to bring my wife back to my parents place.
Home life became a circus. My brother and his pregnant girlfriend already live with my folks, so the house is incredibly cramped. Mum and Dad made not-so-subtle hints that it would be best if we found our own place, even if we had to rent a flat for a while. But Id already decided to save every pound possible so we could eventually get a mortgage and buy a house. My wife knew all about my plan. She insisted she was desperate to move outso what does she do? She goes and wastes our hard-earned savings on shares.
Why? Apparently to grow our savings.
Mum nearly fainted when I told her. My heart sank too, because our shares have dropped in value and now its a waiting game just to sell them offlosing money or risking what little we have, hoping for some miracle turnaround on the market. So here I am: all my friends have families and flats, and what do we have? Sodding shares!
My wifes just sobbing now, wishing she hadnt been so gullible. She even paid these people to teach her where and how to invest. And all I can think about is divorce. My love isnt strong enough if I cant get past this, and I keep thinking about all the money I earned, penny by penny, for yearsjust to watch it vanish into thin air.
If Im brutally honest, our marriage was on the rocks from the very start. This whole fiasco just confirms that I seem to be trapped in a permanent rut, all because I married a daft girl.
